View Bradford Factor and cost of absence

Understand how the Bradford Factor and cost of absence are calculated and how to report on sickness trends.

If you need to monitor sickness patterns or assess the impact of absence, you can use the Bradford Factor Report. This report highlights absence frequency and estimates the cost to the business.

Run the Bradford Factor report

  1. Click Reports, then click Bradford Factor Report.

  2. Set the Effective Report Period if required.

  3. Click View or click Download report.


Understand the Bradford Factor

The Bradford Factor:

  • Measures absence frequency, not just total days.

  • Highlights patterns of repeated short-term absence.

This helps identify users who may need further review or support.


View additional report details

The report includes links to:

  • Show in Viewer: Opens the user’s calendar.

  • View as PDF: Exports the user’s calendar.

  • Cost of Absence: Shows the estimated cost of absence.


Understand cost of absence

  • The system uses a default daily rate to calculate cost.

  • By default, this is set to Ā£100 per day.


Update the cost of absence rate

  1. Click HR Admin, then click Setup.

  2. Click Company Data.

  3. Enter a value in Cost of absence per day.

  4. Click Save.


Understand reporting periods

  • The Bradford Factor typically uses a rolling 12-month period.

  • You can adjust the report period to review specific date ranges.


Use additional reports

To analyse absence in more detail:

  • Run the Absence Detailed Report for specific dates.

  • Use reports to compare trends and patterns.
